WEEK 12

Hello⚈₃⚈Welcome back to our Blog❤

This week we did Product Development part 2, which is peer-teach the topics we were assigned to and do a 5 mins presentation to share with the class. The main focus is 3D Printing.

We have learnt about DIGITAL FABRICATION which has become an important enabling technology in the chemical engineering industry.

What is Digital Fabrication?

  • Able to quickly make WHAT you need WHEN you need it
  • Good for PROTOTYPING๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡
It allows a physical evaluation of the design as well as perform a functional testing before a productional run. it also allows identify and remove errors.
  • Good for END USE parts as well๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡
It extends the lifespan of older equipment by printing obsolete parts as well as allows reverse-engineering spare parts. it customizes high value or low volume end-use production.

Some examples given by our teachers are:

1. UNIVERSITY OF CONNECITCUT(UConn): chemical engineering students developed a prototype of an artificial kidney that makes use of 3D-printed parts and hollow fibre membrane technology.

2. Material research for 3D printing: CHEMENG student from Texas tech university discovered that only carbon nanotubes infused in printable polymer filaments heat up quickly when exposed to microwave and hence can fuse together the layers in a 3D print making it stronger.

BTW we all received our keyrings๐Ÿ’ฅ

Share with the class 5 recent articles featured in main stream news media of which 2 must be local. SO SCROLL DOWN TO SEE WHAT WE DID!!๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡
